Volunteering within Ninewells Hospital

Ninewells Hospital is an acute hospital with both inpatient and outpatient facilities.

In Ninewells Hospital there are volunteering opportunities in a variety of areas including medicine for the elderly, orthopaedic, maternity, outpatient clinics and cardiology with many more new opportunities emerging and being explored.

The ward volunteers carry out befriending and companionship roles, listening to and talking with patients, reading newspapers, books or letters to patients, helping ward staff with provision of refreshments, helping patients complete menus, running errands for patients such as going to the shop for a paper, etc.

Welcome Guide volunteers are situated on the main concourse of the hospital and these volunteers can give directions or take patients or visitors to wards, clinics and other hospital services.  These volunteers are easily spotted in their purple Here to Help waistcoats.

We also have vacancies for volunteers to help look after the gardens at Armitstead Child Development Centre, Dundee.
