The Susan Carnegie Centre is located at the bottom right hand side of the main drive as you enter the hospital grounds.

The Susan Carnegie Centre opened on 5 December 2011 and currently houses two inpatient mental health units, and associated supporting clinicians and staff.

There is one main entrance to the building which is located in the middle of the building directly opposite The Pavilion restaurant. Entry to the building is available Monday to Sunday 7-9am. Out with these hours the building is locked for security purposes and entry to the building is via a video intercom situated at the main door.

Willow Unit - Older Peoples Mental Health

The Willow Unit is a 12 bedded unit for admission and assessment for all people with dementia from across Angus. Admissions can be arranged 24 hours per day 7 days per week. The unit has individual en suite bedrooms, communal lounge, dining areas and various other spaces available.

The unit is staffed by registered mental health nurses, healthcare assistants and is supported on a daily basis by allied health professionals and medical staff.

Admission is via the Older Peoples Mental Health Multidisciplinary Team.

Visiting hours ares open. For the safety of our patients, the unit is locked – on arrival please ring the door bell.

Rowan Unit - Older Peoples Mental Health

The Rowan Unit is a  13 bedded acute admission, assessment and treatment unit for older people with mental health problems. Admissions can be arranged 24 hours per day 7 days per week. The unit has individual en suite bedrooms, communal lounge, dining areas and various other spaces are available.

Admission is via Older Peoples Mental Health Multidisciplinary Team. The unit is staffed by registered mental health nurses, healthcare assistants and is supported on a daily basis by allied health professionals and medical staff.

Entry to Rowan unit is open and we ask all visitors to sign in and out. Visiting hours are open.

Dementia Liaison Team (DLT)

The DLT provides assessment, support and interventions for people with dementia and their carers (informal and formal) who are in a care home or community hospital/medicine for the elderly inpatient ward in Angus. The DLT works particularly with people with complex issues – stress and distress. They operate Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. They do not provide a crisis response service. Their input is person centred assessment, interventions and treatment.

Post Diagnostic Dementia Support Service (PDS)

The PDS team provide a minimum of one year post diagnostic support to anyone diagnosed with dementia regardless of age, their families and carers. Referral into the team is made by the doctor or clinician who has given the diagnosis of dementia.

The team work Monday to Friday 9am–5pm and have the flexibility to adjust their working times if required to meet with people who may, for example, still be working. They do not provide a crisis response service. Their input is person centred and is based on Alzheimer’s Scotland five pillars model. The team is staffed by registered nursing staff, social workers and support workers.

Other Professionals

Consultant psychiatrists, medical staff, allied health professionals (AHPs), social therapy staff, medical secretaries, administration staff, chaplain, psychology, pharmacy and nursing management work out of the open plan office in the Susan Carnegie Centre, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

Further Information

Whilst there is a reception desk within Susan Carnegie Centre, this is not always staffed. There is a bell for any visitors who require assistance Monday to Friday from 9am–5pm.

There are three meeting rooms within the Susan Carnegie Centre which can be booked by staff (priority is given to the Mental Health Tribunal Team).

There is a recreation hall which is used for both patient recreation and staff training.

There are a number of helpful and informative leaflets in the reception area regarding mental health issues and recovery.

There is a dedicated spiritual area for quiet contemplation, spiritual and religious needs (for all religions) and a dedicated chaplain for the centre.
