We are unable to provide -
  • a breakdown per language as this would require manually accessing and reviewing each invoice, followed by collation and analysis of the resultant information.  This exercise would require the allocation of resources that the service does not have, resulting in excessive cost to NHS Tayside. However, based on activity, NHS Tayside provides approximately 320 appointments per month for people requiring a Polish interpreter and 80 appointments per month for people requiring a BSL interpreter. Other languages are much smaller numbers.
  • figures which require collation from individual patient records as this would require a manual exercise to extract the information.  Once this had been extracted, verification and analysis would have to be undertaken. There is no resource available to NHS Tayside to do this work.
  • the total cost of translation within NHS Tayside as this service is not paid centrally but is paid by the individual departments which independently make the requests for translation. Therefore there is no central record of the total spend on translation.
