Creative Discoveries Art display in Broughty Ferry

An art exhibition created by individuals who are living with Parkinson’s disease in Dundee went on display today (Thursday).

Family, friends and staff had the opportunity to see a range of drawings and paintings at the exhibition in St. Aidan’s Centre in Broughty Ferry.

The works were created using a variety of drawing and painting methods, such as watercolour, oil and acrylics.

The creative art programme was delivered by Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) as part of their Long Term Conditions Creative Engagement Project which is supported by Creative Scotland and NHS Tayside.

Lead artist Frances Law has been working with the group over the past two months encouraging each participant to produce a collection of works, which are unique to each person.

Frances said, “This process of working very closely is linked to my own practice as an artist and it has been tremendous to have been able to share that with the group and to see them grow in confidence and ability.”

THAT project development officer Karine Neill said, “The participants have produced some unique art works. Throughout the programme, participants have encouraged each other and become more confident in their achievements.”

THAT promotes the therapeutic value of arts-based programmes to enhance quality of life, to promote social inclusion and to empower the individual to make an important contribution to their health and well being. The programmes are designed to encourage people affected by health issues to explore their creativity and recognise their abilities and talents.
