FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Angus maternity services open evening

Following on from the successful event held at Arbroath in December, an open evening is being held at Montrose Community Maternity Unit on to promote the wide range of services on offer at the maternity units across Angus.

The open evening, being held on Friday, 27 February from 4-7pm is aimed at prospective parents, pregnant ladies, their partners and family but everyone is welcome to come along and meet members of the Angus midwifery team and learn more about the services offered including water births, relaxation classes, self-hypnosis and the new aromatherapy service.

Members of the Angus midwifery team will be on hand to chat with visitors, answer questions and give tours of the unit. Children are welcome and face painting and craft activities will be available with refreshments and home baking also on offer.

Visitors can drop in at any time of the day, have a tour and a chat about water birth, natural labour and birth and aromatherapy massages. The day will end with a yoga birth and relaxation session for mums-to-be.

Angus midwifery team leader Iona Duckett said, “We are excited for as many people as possible to come along, meet the midwifery team and our volunteers and hear about the facilities and services we offer. The community maternity units in Arbroath and Montrose are midwife-led services offering care to women throughout pregnancy, birth and into the postnatal period.

“Our Forfar midwives provide care to pregnant and postnatal mums and babies and women from Forfar and the surrounding area may choose to have their babies in either Montrose or Arbroath maternity units. We also support home births across Angus and are happy to discuss this with prospective parents.

“The Angus maternity team also runs fun and informative parent education classes, weekly relaxation classes and a new aromatherapy massage service to help women who are overdue go into labour. The initial feedback has been very positive.”
