£3400 donated to Cornhill Macmillan Centre at Perth Royal Infirmary

A local business donated £3400 to Cornhill Macmillan Centre today (Thursday).

Pete Chan from China China take away, Perth raised the money through a Chinese Red Envelope appeal.

Pete said, “I was asked by the centre if I could provide lunch and do a talk on Chinese New Year for patients. Of course I said yes and told them that I would provide the lunch free of charge.”

“After meeting staff from the ward and seeing what services they provide, I decided to raise money for the centre.”

“I started a Chinese Red Envelope appeal on social media. Traditionally at Chinese New Year we gift money in little red envelopes. It’s a tradition that’s been around in the Chinese culture for centuries.”

“So far generous customers and colleagues from other local businesses have donated £3000. I am very grateful for all their donations.”

Accepting the cheque, team leader Morag Carroll said, “A huge thank you to Pete Chan and his generous customers, colleagues, friends and business associates for their substantial donation to Cornhill Macmillan Centre Support Group from his 'Red Envelope Appeal'.

“Our initial contact with Pete was for someone to give a talk to our day care patients and staff about Chinese New Year and their traditions. We never imagined it would lead to this.”
