Volunteer gardeners needed for community allotment

NHS Tayside is looking for volunteer gardeners to help out at the community allotment in Arbroath which offers therapeutic gardening opportunities.

Shona Burge, Project Manager with Angus Healthy Happy Communities said, “We are looking for volunteers of all ages and abilities with any amount of experience, from total beginners who can learn from the other volunteers, to experienced gardeners who want a bit less work but can pass on their skills and knowledge.

“This year, we are hoping to get some raised beds made, so if anyone has materials or experience and can help we’d be delighted to hear from them. We are also hoping to offer therapeutic gardening opportunities this year to people living with long-term conditions or in recovery, although I believe that gardening is therapy for everyone!

“A staff member or experienced volunteer is on hand every Thursday from 1.30 – 4pm, but we are happy for people to come up to the allotment any time once they are confident enough.

“The allotment is a great way to socialise and meet people. A couple of times a year we cook some of the food we produce on site and have a social afternoon as a thank you to volunteers.”
