FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Forfar health show to be quite the event

The free long term conditions health event being held in the Reid Hall in Forfar on Thursday, 23 April from 11am to 3.30pm promises much with its wide variety of demonstrations and information stands.

Lady Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne will open the event with piper David Myles providing a musical accompaniment. The event is aimed at those living with a long term condition and their families and friends to find out more about their condition, how to manage it better and how to live a healthier and happier life.

Supported by NHS Tayside, the event includes a wide range of groups including local healthcare services, the local authority, third sector agencies, national organisations and, importantly, people who themselves live with a long term condition.

There will be a series of demonstrations that visitors to the event can get involved with including chair-based exercise at 1pm and Pilates at 2pm.

As well as free refreshments, there will be over 30 information stands providing a wide range of information stalls covering topics such as diabetes, heart conditions, arthritis, kidney disease, chronic pain, skin conditions, neurological conditions, COPD and asthma as well as stands covering complementary therapies, emotional wellbeing, smoking cessation and weight management.

A number of local organisations including Angus Carers, Angus Council and Voluntary Action Angus will also be in attendance.

Rhona Guild, long term conditions lead in Angus said, “I would encourage people to come along to this event, which we hope offers something for everyone affected by a long term condition. It's a great way of finding out what's available locally to support you and, over the years, people have told us they learn a lot from attending.

“We rely on feedback from participants to develop future events, so attendees who complete our evaluation will be entered into a prize draw for a grocery voucher.”

Angus gained national recognition for the services available for those living with a long term condition winning the ‘Care for Long-Term Illnesses’ award at the 2014 Scottish Health Awards. The award recognised the partnerships that have been developed with local communities to drive forward work supporting people who live with a long term condition.
