Ceramic art work display in Monifieth

Ceramic art created by members of the Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland Dundee Stroke Group went on display today (Tuesday).

The work, featured in the exhibition at Monifieth Community Cabin, was created during a ceramic art programme run by ST/ART, an arts project for stroke and acquired brain injury participants across Tayside. ST/ART is run by Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) in association with NHS Tayside.

Participants created a wide range of work using different ceramic techniques, such as slab and coil building, impressing and glazing.

The art programme was designed by artist Jane Woodford to encourage the group’s creativity and to develop individual talents and interests. Jane was supported by the Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland team of volunteers and volunteer artist Fiona McCubbin.

The project is one of a range of art programmes for people with long term conditions being delivered by THAT, which promotes creative engagement to enhance participant’s health and wellbeing.

Jane said, “It has been great to work with the group as they had requested ceramics and were keen to work in three dimensions. We have managed to try quite a few different techniques, which they have enjoyed.”

THAT project coordinator Chris Kelly said, “Jane has really inspired the group, working from a theme of nature and the results are very satisfying.”

Darlene Drummond, Chest Heart Stroke & Scotland, Dundee area coordinator, said, “We are very fortunate to be supported by the ST/ART project and over the years we have had a great range of programmes. The group requested ceramics after their previous programme last year and they have created a marvellous collection of work.”
