Young and older people bridged the generational gap at a community picnic in the park.

The community picnic in Luncarty was planned by the Luncarty Healthy Communities group. Young people and staff from The Honeypot Nursery and Perth & Kinross Council Wrap Around school club attended the event, alongside local families and adults from Balhousie Luncarty Care Home and Glenhelenbank Care Home.

The children and adults shared different generational games at the picnic from snakes and ladders to French skipping, hopscotch and hula hooping.

Despite a spell of wet weather, which resulted in the picnic moving from the park to Luncarty Church Centre grounds, participant’s spirits were not dampened and all generations attending enjoyed the activities and refreshments on offer.

Perth & Kinross Healthy Communities project support worker Audra Webster said, “Everyone had a wonderful day. It has been great to see everyone taking part in an intergenerational event like this as it helps people of all ages get more involved and strengthens their local community.

“The Healthy Communities group in Luncarty has worked very hard to organise the picnic as a way to help promote active ageing and encourage healthier, independent communities and therefore reduce social isolation, particularly among older people.”

Healthy Communities is an initiative which offers people the opportunity to become involved in improving the health and wellbeing of their community. Staff work with residents to establish a range of activities at local venues, including exercise classes and socialising events.

The Healthy Communities Luncarty group organised the picnic following the Generations Working Together approach, which encourages involvement to benefit all generations.
