FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New GP for Forfar practice ahead of merger

A new GP has joined Academy Medical Practice ahead of the merger with Ravenswood Surgery.

Academy Medical Centre and Ravenswood Surgery in Forfar are progressing plans for the new practice, Chapelpark Healthcare Centre, which will open following the merger of the existing practices.

Dr Andrew Thomson said, “We would like to thank our staff for all the hard work that is going on behind the scenes to prepare for the opening of the new practice. As you can imagine, there is a lot of work to do in advance of the merger, especially given our plans to deliver services in a new way.

“Services in the new practice will be delivered by six small teams of staff, with all patients allocated to one of the teams. This new way of working will allow us to develop closer relationships with our patients and to support care based around people’s needs, with a focus on supporting health and wellbeing.

“Feedback from our patients suggests that they are looking forward to the proposed changes, with many asking when the merger will happen.

“Redevelopment of the existing Academy Medical Centre building is a critical part of the planning and once we have confirmation about plans and timescales, we will write to our patients to share news about the date of the merger. Until the merger, services continue to run as normal.”

In advance of the merger, a new GP has joined Academy Medical Practice. Dr Lee Barry will be working in the practice part-time, normally on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Dr Barry has lived in Scotland for 18 years and retrained as a doctor having initially undertaken an Industrial Pharmacy degree. In 2011, he began his training in General Practice in Aberdeen, qualifying earlier this year. Dr Barry also has a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Dr Barry said, “Throughout my medical training I have lived in Angus. In addition to studying I have been renovating our home and raising my young family. When I have spare time I enjoy playing the guitar, cycling and good food.

“‘I look forward to meeting my new patients and colleagues over the coming months.”
