Partnership working to support unpaid carers in Brechin area
Brechin Health Centre, now run by NHS Tayside, and the Angus Carers’ Centre are to work closely together to help support unpaid carers in the Brechin area.
Staff at the Brechin Health Centre will be working closely with Carol Dougan who is the Angus Carers’ Carer Development Worker for the Brechin, Montrose and Edzell areas.
Working as part of a multi-agency network in north-east Angus, Carol already liaises with health professionals, social workers and day care centres to ensure that carers’ voices are heard and that the right support and guidance is given.
As part of the new initiative, Carol will be attending multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings where professionals from various organisations discuss carer cases in the community that need support to enable them to continue to live at home.
Fiona Robertson, Practice Manager, said, “The value of various professionals working together to support the care of people in their own homes is well-recognised. These meetings have recently been introduced to Brechin Health Centre and we are keen to ensure that the needs of unpaid carers are recognised with good signposting to relevant services and information.”
Alison Myles, CEO of Angus Carers, said, “With three out of five people set to become carers at some point in their lives, the supporting role played by carers’ centres is increasingly becoming a familiar part of many people’s lives.
“A large part of our role is liaising with other local organisations in the care sector so we’re very pleased that Carol is going to be working closely with the staff at Brechin Health Centre. We’re sure that this joined-up approach to working will ensure that we are all much better equipped to support adult and young carers in the Brechin area.”
