Donation to labour suite at Ninewells Hospital

A Dundee family have donated a large collection of baby clothes and equipment to the labour and TULIP (Tayside Unit for Loss in Pregnancy) suites at Ninewells Hospital.

Robyn Stevens and Brian Tolmie raised money to buy the items for the unit in memory of their daughter Konnie after she sadly passed away last year.

Robyn sold handmade candles and crafts to help raise the money to purchase the equipment, which included specialist moses baskets and baby clothes.

The TULIP suite is used as a dedicated bereavement suite where mums can labour, give birth and spend time after birth with their baby.

The suite was developed in consultation with those who have experienced stillbirths previously and offered ideas on how to make the facility as well-equipped and comfortable as possible to aid those going through such a difficult time in their lives.

Robyn said she wanted to make the donation to support other parents using the TULIP suite.

She said, “I hope this donation helps other parents and makes the experience a bit less stressful and traumatic.

“We found it difficult to find clothes to fit for Konnie so hopefully having these available will allow people to spend more quality time with their baby.”

Accepting the donation, midwife Vicki Falls said, “Robyn is a truly strong and inspirational woman. She and her family have been through such heartache but she has selflessly worked to support other women who are going through the same.

“We are very grateful for this wonderful donation and we wish her all the best with her fundraising to support the women and families of Tayside.”

A charity auction night is also being held in memory of Konnie and to raise funds for Sands Tayside, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, and the charity Remember My Baby at the Downfield Suite on Friday, 16 September.
