Headway Tayside Arbroath group unveil glass displays

The Headway Tayside Arbroath group unveiled a display of fused glass work at Voluntary Action Angus today (Wednesday).

The exhibition has been made possible by ST/ART, an arts project for stroke and acquired brain injury participants across Tayside, which is run by Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) in association with NHS Tayside.

During the three-month creative engagement programme, group members created a wide range of glass works from experimental pieces to glass coasters and larger dishes. The celebration display showcased a selection of work by each participant.

Headway volunteer organiser Gill Moir said, “It has been great having ST/ART back with us again this year with an exciting new challenge for our groups.”

Lead artist Rachel Bower worked closely with the group helping participants produce a collection of pieces that reflect their own personalities.

Rachel said, “We have taken the group through a range of techniques that I have specially developed for this programme taking them on a journey of learning with increasing complexity and scale to the work. They have all responded so well and produced some stunning pieces.”

THAT project co-ordinator Chris Kelly said, “We work with Headway regularly providing them with a wide range of creative opportunities both here in Arbroath and in Dundee.

“The groups are always positive about the experience and clearly value these opportunities as part of their shared time during the year.”

The fused glass programme is one of a range of art programmes for people with long term conditions currently being delivered by THAT, which promotes creative engagement to enhance participant’s health and wellbeing.
