The third annual Dietitians Week organised by the British Dietetic Association ran from 6 – 10 June and this year had the theme of workplace health. NHS Tayside supported the awareness week with a range of events and activities at sites across Tayside.

Each day of the week had a different theme to raise the importance of how food, hydration and activity can affect your health and wellbeing, as well as your performance at work.

Joyce Thompson, Dietetic Consultant in Public Health Nutrition with NHS Tayside said, “What we eat and when we eat can influence our mood, energy levels, concentration and even how we deal with stress.

“Through our activities this week, we hope to create a culture of health and wellness that helps our staff to eat well, be physically active and encourage healthier work environments.

“One of the important messages is about how regular breaks help our brains and our bodies achieve a better work/life balance, so protecting your lunch break is important.

“We also know that keeping hydrated helps decision-making and prevents lower concentration levels, fatigue and anxiety.

“We spend a large part of the day at work and including physical activity as part of the workday can also help us reach our physical activity goals.”
