Students undertaking an HNC in Beauty Therapy at Perth College have donated a cuddle cot and baby clothes and blankets to the Tulip Suite at Ninewells in memory of a classmate’s baby.

The group donated the cot and baby clothes in memory of baby Leo Lawlor who was born in May to Hannah Lister, a beauty therapy course classmate.

Student Ashleigh Robinson said, “We had already decided to hold a fundraising day at college to raise money for a cuddle cot when in a tragic twist of events, Hannah sadly lost baby Leo the week before the event.

“We decided to remember Leo with a plaque on the cot with his name on it. We raised a total of £1886 which allowed us to buy the cuddle cot and baby clothes and blankets.”

Accepting the donations, midwife Chrissie Hastings said, “I would like to thank the students for their fundraising efforts and their donations, especially Hannah who is selflessly thinking of others whilst dealing with her own heartache.”

A cuddle cot is a specialised cold cot which allows parents to spend time with and say goodbye to their baby.

The Tulip suite is a dedicated bereavement suite where mums can labour, give birth and spend time after birth with their baby.
