IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Families in Tayside encouraged to brush up on oral health at Childsmile events

Families across Tayside are being invited to learn about improving pre-school children’s oral health at local Childsmile events.

Free drop-in events are taking place in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross over the next few weeks to offer information and advice to parents.

Advice will be offered on the best techniques to brush young children’s teeth, healthy snack ideas, information on tooth-friendly drinks and support on how to register with a dentist. Craft activities will also be taking place for children at the events.

The Childsmile drop-in events are being held on the following dates:

    • 11am - 3.30pm, Wednesday, 17 August, at The Crescent, Whitfield in Dundee

    • 10am -1pm, Thursday, 18 August, at the Links Health Centre in Montrose

    • 10.15am – 2pm, Friday, 26 August, at the North Inch Community Campus, Perth

The Childsmile programme, which is implemented across Tayside, is designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland, promoting preventative measures and education to avoid the need for clinical intervention in the future.

The programme also recognises those children at heightened dental risk or those already showing signs of untreated dental diseases and offers a referral service to health professionals and third sector organisations to request support and access to treatment.

Principal coordinator with NHS Tayside’s Oral Health Improvement Team, Donna Kirk, said, “These events have been arranged to inform the public of how to give children the best possible start in regards to oral health. We look forward to welcoming parents, carers and professionals to the events.”
