Wedding donation to palliative care homecare fund

A Dundee couple have donated £740 to the palliative care homecare fund at Roxburghe House.

Gillian and Graeme Buchan from Dundee got married this year and instead of gifts, asked their friends and family to make a donation.

Gillian said, “I met my husband in 1999 and we moved in together in 2001. We had both been married before and between us we have eight children and 13 grandchildren and another grandchild due in December.

“In 2014 I discovered a lump on my left breast and was diagnosed with grade three fast spreading breast cancer. We were devastated. I decided there and then that it was not going to beat me and, with the support of all our families and friends I went through six sessions of chemo and six weeks of radiotherapy.

“I carried on working part time through it but I know without a doubt I could never have coped without Graeme being my rock!

“After all the treatment we decided that after 17 years together we would get married. Because we had been together for so long, we didn’t want or need any gifts, so we thought it would be nice to give something back to Macmillan for all they had done for me. Without them, I wouldn't be here today.”

Accepting the cheque, service manager Anne Robb said, “Thank you to Gillian and Graeme for the extremely generous donation which will benefit patients in Roxburghe House and Macmillan Day Care.”
