80’s sausage sizzler raises money for day unit
An 80’s themed charity event raised £755 for the Macmillan Day Care Unit at Roxburghe House.
Liz Gourlay from Dundee held an 80’s themed festival in her garden to raise money for Roxburghe House. She charged an entry fee, sold burgers and hotdogs, had an 80’s trivia quiz and a raffle and her niece’s husband even shaved his head!
Liz said, “I wanted to raise money for the Macmillan day care unit as my mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Sadly she passed away five weeks after she was diagnosed and didn’t get the time to benefit from the unit.
“By raising money I am honouring her memory and helping other people to benefit from the unit.
“The day was a great success. My niece’s husband Lee raised £285 for shaving his head and lots of people donated lovely things for the raffle. I can’t believe we raised £755!”
Accepting the cheque, charge nurse Elizabeth Birtles said, “Thank you so much to Liz and her family and friends.
“By the sounds of things, they had a fun day in the garden with their 80's themed event and raised such a huge sum of money at the same time.
“We greatly appreciate their efforts and the generous donation which will benefit patients attending Macmillan Day Care Unit at Roxburghe House.”
