IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Children’s memorial service in Dundee

Parents and relatives who have lost a child are invited to join a service of thanksgiving and remembrance in the Dundee University Chaplaincy Centre on Cross Row on Thursday, 1 December at 7.30pm.

The service will include music and poetry as well as the lighting of candles in memory of babies and children who have died. Refreshments will be served after the service.

The event, organised by NHS Tayside Department of Spiritual Care in conjunction with the stillbirth and neonatal death charity SANDS, is open to everyone regardless of faith or belief and many parents who have lost a child return each year to remember their loved one at the Christmas service.

Healthcare chaplain Duncan MacLaren said, “The children’s memorial service is a valued opportunity for parents and relatives to pause in the run-up to Christmas and remember their little ones. At whatever stage of grief people find themselves, it’s a way of marking a moment and renewing precious memories.”

There is also a children’s memorial service held each year on the first Thursday in May.
