A Broughty Ferry mother and daughter team has raised £4120 for the Multiple Sclerosis research department at Ninewells.

Lorraine Grant and Ashley Holmes held a ladies night and auction at the Woodlands Hotel to raise awareness of MS and raise money for MS research.

One the night, Consultant Neurologist Johnathan O’Riordan gave a speech about MS and MP Chris Law kindly helped with the raffle and auction.

Lorraine said, “The evening was a sell out with 150 women attending and a young piper called Duncan Toohey piped for the ladies arrival.

“We received a lot of support from local businesses and also had prizes donated from JK Rowling, Lorraine Kelly and Dundee Airport. The local footballs teams also got involved and donated items for the auction.

Ashley said, “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of donations from everyone and would like to thank them all.

“Redwood Leisure arrange for “Whaurs Wullie” to come along on the night and he happily wore a pink boa and posed for pictures with everyone!

“We are planning more fundraising and my auntie Cath Wooldridge is organising an abseil from the university tower block next year. We already have a lot of ladies signed up to take part!

Accepting the cheque, Consultant Neurologist Johnathan O’Riordan said, “We are most grateful to Ashley and her mum Lorraine for this great effort. Thank you to all the ladies who participated in the fundraising event.

“The money they have raised will develop a web-based programme which will be piloted in Tayside and Grampian before eventually rolling out nationally.”
