Story time comes to Ninewells

Children, parents and staff at the Tayside Children’s Hospital in Dundee were treated to special performance of panto Dick Whittington by Starlight Children’s Foundation today (Wednesday, 4 January).

Starlight Children’s Foundation is taking the Christmas panto story of Dick Whittington on the road visiting hospitals and hospices across the UK and visited Tayside Children's Hospital at Ninewells, entertaining children and their parents to a magical performance.

Every year, Starlight provides entertainment and distraction to children in hospital and the Starlight panto gives sick children the chance to laugh and cheer without leaving a hospital ward.

Una Paton, senior play specialist at the hospital, said, “Entertainment and play can improve a child’s hospital experience by providing a welcome distraction from their illness and treatment.

“It was really lovely to see the children from Ward 29 and the paediatric outpatient clinic enjoying the show. Starlight is a fantastic charity and each year we look forward to the arrival of their performances that bring fun and laughter to our young patients.”

The panto is just one way that Starlight brings fun and laughter to children in hospital across the UK. The charity also grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes to children with serious and terminal illnesses. For more information on Starlight Children’s Foundation visit www.starlight.org.uk
