FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

NHS Tayside STAR Awards proving popular

More than 100 nominations have been received from staff and the public since the launch of the NHS Tayside Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Awards last week.

The new awards offer staff and the public a chance to recognise an individual, service or team for delivering outstanding patient care or going the extra mile in their job.

NHS Tayside Chairman Professor John Connell said, “The nomination website and phone lines have been very busy over the last week and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to nominate someone for an award.

“It’s great to see all the positive feedback from patients, their families and from staff nominating their colleagues. We know from the very positive reaction we get when we tell staff they have been nominated that it is very much appreciated.”

There is still time for people to nominate their STAR as the nomination period is open until 28 February.

There are six award categories in total with the first three open to nominations from members of the public as well as staff. There are also three more specialised categories which are only open to nominations from NHS Tayside staff.

The categories open to public nomination are:

    • Outstanding Individual (clinical) e.g. a doctor, nurse, healthcare assistant, consultant, surgeon, physiotherapist, occupational therapist etc

Someone who goes the extra mile for their patient or colleagues/NHS Tayside

    • Outstanding Individual (non-clinical) e.g. domestic assistant, porter, receptionist, catering staff etc

Someone who goes the extra mile within their job role helping colleagues/NHS Tayside or patients and visitors

    • Outstanding Team e.g. a service, ward team or a team that works in the community etc

A team who works together going the extra mile for patients or colleagues/NHS Tayside

Nominations can be made online at www.starawardstayside.scot.nhs.uk or by calling the nomination phone line on 01382 632087 or 01382 740063. The phone line is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm with an answerphone outside of these times. You may receive a call back about your nomination if more information is required.

All finalists will be invited to the STAR Awards ceremony at The Invercarse Hotel in May, where the winners will be announced.

The STAR Awards are being delivered in partnership with The Academic Health Science Partnership (AHSP), the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Unison, The Tayside branch of the Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists and The Invercarse Hotel.
