FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Fun Fit groups for Dundee families

NHS Tayside’s Paediatric Overweight Service (POST) is encouraging Dundee families to get active this year with free Fun Fit sessions.

Fun Fit Dundee is a programme aimed at families with children aged between 8 and 13 years who need

support managing their weight. The group offers free sessions in a friendly and interactive environment, to help and motivate families to succeed in making healthy lifestyle changes.

The programme, developed by the POST team, will run once a week for 10 weeks, consisting of a family session covering varying topics including food labelling, portion sizes, energy balance, positive parenting and general nutrition. There will also be fun physical activity and games session for the children while parents have the opportunity to build a support network and work on the challenges they face as a family.

The programme starts this month at St John’s RC Academy in Dundee. A parent or carer must accompany children at every session and children can bring a friend or sibling.

Dr Laura Stewart, POST team lead, said, “Children outside of the healthy weight range can be affected by teasing and bullying and may lack confidence at school and in the playground where taking part in sports and games can be difficult or embarrassing.

“Our aim is to work with the whole family in a fun setting and to have happy and confident children at a

healthy weight. We are bringing free child and family healthy weight groups into the community, making it more accessible for everyone to attend.”

To book a place on the Fun Fit Dundee groups, or if you have any concerns about your child’s weight you can contact POST in confidence on 01738 473784 or email post.tayside@nhs.net.
