FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Get involved in Bike to School Week

NHS Tayside’s Paediatric Overweight Service (POST) is encouraging families across the region to get involved in Bike to School Week.

National Bike to School Week runs from Monday, 5 June and hopes to get families out of cars and buses and onto their bikes.

Bike to School Week is an annual opportunity to promote cycling and show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life by encouraging ‘everyday cycling for everyone’.

Dr Laura Stewart, POST team lead, said, “Cycling to school can have a huge effect on young people’s confidence and independence. Getting outside and being active with your children is a positive and enjoyable activity.

“Children need at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day and adults should aim to engage in at least 30 minutes a day. So getting out on your bike with the children is a great way to do so with cycling for 30 minutes burning around 90 calories.”

Send POST your bike to school week pictures on Twitter to @POSTNHST or on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/nhstaysidePOST with the tag #funfittayside.

To find out more about the free POST service or if you have any concerns about your child’s weight, you can contact POST in confidence on 01738 473784 or email post.tayside@nhs.net.
