IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Men’s Shed project in Auchterarder – under construction!

A new Men’s Shed project is under construction in the Auchterarder area.

Men’s Shed is a concept that originated in Australia to create somewhere men can call their own, where they can spend time sharing skills, knowledge and interests in a relaxed atmosphere.

Men’s Sheds provide a place for men to gather and participate in a number of activities whilst supporting each other. The project has gained in popularity across the world and has now been introduced to several areas in Tayside.

Perth & Kinross Healthy Communities, in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council’s Community Learning and Development Community Capacity Building team, is inviting residents in the Auchterarder area to a public meeting to discuss establishing a Men’s Shed locally.

The meeting is being held at Auchterarder Parish Church at 7pm on Tuesday, 5 September.

A Men’s Shed project currently runs successfully in Kinross and is supported by Perth & Kinross Healthy Communities.

Anyone who might be interested in joining the new group can contact project support worker Shona Fowler on 01738 473718, 07896 280843 or by email shonafowler@nhs.net

Shona Fowler said, “Men’s Sheds are gaining in popularity in Scotland and are widely acknowledged as providing many benefits to those who attend and the communities in which they are situated. The Men’s Shed programme has been shown to improve participants’ wellbeing and reduce isolation.

“Men’s Sheds are friendly environments that cater for men with a range of interests and serve as an important meeting place for men to socialise, share life experiences and skills.

“At the meeting, we hope to have a chat with people in the Auchterarder area to discuss the way forward for a Men’s Shed locally.”

Perth & Kinross Healthy Communities is supported by the Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership.
