Occupational Therapy (Activities of Daily Living)
Occupational Therapy aims to enable people to live a more independant, productive and enjoyable life following an injury, disability or illness. In order to achieve this, Occupational Therapists assess an individual's ability to participate in activities of their choice and carry out every day tasks including: washing and dressing, work, which may be paid or unpaid, domestic tasks, driving, writing or managing finances, leisure, including socialising, hobbies and interests.
Occupational Therapists are trained health professionals who use purposeful activity to treat patients working on their physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing. Individual programmes are designed to help patients to carry out everyday activities to maximise independence in all areas of daily life using the person's abilities to overcome their disability.

Referral to the Service
People are often referred for occupational therapy by doctors or other health and social care professionals. Increasingly, as a result of changes and improvements in health care, people can refer themselves directly to occupational therapists without previously seeing any other health care professional.
The Assessment
During your initial assessment we will try to fully and clearly understand the problems you are facing. We will identify all areas you are having difficulty with and help you work out ways to overcome or cope with the difficulties. We will then work with you to set you own goals to allow you to maximise your independence and work on what is important to you. If necessary, we will offer techniques and help you relearn or develop new skills to improve your independence. We may also demonstrate equipment we feel will benefit you.
