Play Talk Read

‘The place you can get all the tools you need to give your wee one the best start at learning’
This is provided by the Scottish Government and has excellent user friendly video clips and top tips for talking, playing and reading!

Ready Steady Toddler

A resource provided by NHS Health Scotland that gives a range of information about “Toddlerhood”, not just the development of communication. Under the ‘Everyday routines’ heading there is a section on communication which includes tips on supporting your toddler's talking skills.

The Communication Trust

In the parents section you can find out about:
• Resources that you can download or order which gives guidance on where children should be with their communication skills
• What to do if you're worried about your child's communication skills

Talking Point

If your child has difficulties with speech, language and communication, you'll find Talking Point have got lots of help and advice and free resources for parents.

ICAN

ICAN is the children’s communication charity. This website is full of useful information and links.
They offer a range of engaging resources for practitioners and parents to use with their children. The latest are the ‘Babbling Babies’ and ‘Toddler Talk’ activity packs for children aged from 0-3.

National Literacy Trust

National Literacy Trust have a great resource called ‘Playing and Talking’ and also lots of practical tips as part of the ‘Talk to your Baby’ Campaign.

Scottish Book Trust

Scottish Book Trust is a national charity changing lives through reading and writing. Scottish Book Trust believes that books and reading have the power to change lives. As a national charity, we inspire and support the people of Scotland to read and write for pleasure.

Help Kidz Learn

Fun, accessible games, activities & tools designed specifically for young children & those with learning difficulties.

Makaton

Makaton uses signs, symbols and speech to help people communicate. Signs are used, with speech, in spoken word order. This helps provide extra clues about what someone is saying. Using signs can help people who have no speech or whose speech is unclear. Using symbols can help people who have limited speech and those who cannot, or prefer not to sign.
