Patients & Visitors

In patient care
On admission to Ninewells hospital, Dundee, for treatment, our CF patients will be either on Ward 3 or Ward 42. Due to cross infection issues, our patients are prioritised to get an individual side room with en suite facilities.
Some of the items we have available to make a stay more comfortable are:
  • A small fridge for drinks and food
  • TV’s and hospital WiFi
  • Access to extra menu and snacks
Out patient care
Outpatient clinics take place on a Thursday morning and are segregated according to microbiology. Patients are allocated a single room and are seen separately by each member of the team.

Weight, height, pulmonary (lung) function, oxygen saturations are measured at every visit. A sputum specimen will also be collected.

Every patient will have an annual review in line with CF trust guidelines. This involves pulmonary function, exercise (step) test, glucose tolerance tests, blood tests, vitamin levels, chest x-ray, an abdominal ultrasound and every 2-5 years a bone scan.

Transition from paediatric CF care to Adult CF care
We appreciate that moving from one team to another can be a difficult time. However, we work very closely with the paediatric CF team to ensure that teenagers with CF can have a planned, supported transfer to the Adult service.
