Training and Research

The Department has a very strong track record for training in gastroenterology, and this is complemented by a strong research base.

Training in Gastroenterology

  • If the quality of training is judged by the level of trainee satisfaction then our training programme in gastroenterology has been consistently ranked with the best in the UK.
  • We value our trainees and afford them the protected training time that is essential to produce a confident, rounded trainee who is ready for the demands of a Consultant job.
  • If you are interested in training in our Department, then contact our Training Programme Director (Dr Max Groome) via the Departmental secretary

Research

  • Our teaching hospital is integrated with the University of Dundee and this brings many advantages.
  • The hospital had a large catchment population, with an integrated IT network, which makes clinical research very exciting.
  • A dedicated, fully equipped Clinical Research Centre provides research nurse support and serves as the ideal site to see study patients.
  • Our Department has an established portfolio of primary research in Liver disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Endoscopy, Early detection of colorectal cancer, and a long history of participation in pharmaceutical industry studies.
