Library and Knowledge Services

Welcome to NHS Tayside Library and Knowledge Services.

NHS Tayside Library and Knowledge Services (L&KS) supports the knowledge and learning needs of all NHS Tayside health and social care staff and students on placement and in developing their information, digital and health literacy skills through help and training. L&KS provides an evidence based literature search service to support practitioners in their drive to improve practice and deliver high quality, evidenced based care.

The NHS Tayside libraries at Murray Royal Hospital and the Carseview Centre contain books with an emphasis on primary care and mental health and together with the Gillingham Learning Hub at PRI provide computers for access to electronic resources and space for quiet study or collaborative working.

NHS Tayside staff are entitled to membership of the Universities of Dundee and Abertay, and on registration (proof of employment must be provided) may borrow print books and have some limited access to electronic resources.

The Knowledge Network (TKN)

The Knowledge Network (TKN), developed and maintained by the Knowledge Services group at NHS Education for Scotland (NES), provides access to the national collection of electronic resources (e-journals, articles and e-books), guidelines, evidence summaries and databases for literature searches and further research. As well as supporting health and social care, resources are also provided to support the needs of Admin, Estates and Facilities staff and Support workers.

The tabs provide access to Portals and Topics tailored for staff or topic groups, Communities of Practice websites to share information on a common theme, Learning and CPD resources, Current Awareness services, Mobile information about downloading services to mobile devices and links to other relevant websites. The single search also allows access to local NHS Scotland library collections (primarily print books) which can be requested for borrowing by NHS staff.

Access to subscription resources is through Athens authentication. Health and social care staff and students on placement in NHS Scotland can Register here for an Athens account.
