The Department of Neurosurgery at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee provides Neurosurgical services to approximately 700,000 people living in Tayside and North East Fife as part of the Scottish Neurosurgery Managed Service Network.

 

There are 16 inpatient Neurosurgery beds on Ward 23B, the dedicated Neurosurgery Ward. Ward 23B also houses the four-bedded Neurosurgical High Dependency Unit. Ward 23B is located on Level 6 in the South Block along with the Neurology Ward - 23A, the Neurophysiology Department, and Pain Services. A further two Neurosurgical beds are available on Ward 23A. Outpatient clinics are held from Monday to Friday in Area 3A on Level 7. Patients may also be reviewed on Ward 23B as ward attenders.

 

Patients requiring Intensive Care are cared for jointly by the Neurosurgical team and the Intensive Care team in the General Intensive Care Unit on Level 4. Children under the age of 13 are cared for in the Tayside Children's Hospital jointly with the Paediatric teams. There is no Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in Ninewells and children requiring Intensive Care are transferred to either the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh or the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow. Patients requiring Interventional Neuroradiology input may be transferred to either the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh or the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
