A Managed Clinical Network is a network of a variety of healthcare staff improving the quality and efficiency of services across complex whole systems and has become even more important in the current financial climate. MCNs achieve their results through consensus and collaboration, by enabling clinicians, patients and service managers to work together across boundaries to deliver safe, effective and person-centred care.
The Respiratory MCN supports co-ordination, planning and development of respiratory services across NHS Tayside.
MCN is Co-ordinated by Jayne White and led by the following groups made up of a variety of healthcare staff described above with Professor Tom Fardon, Arlene Shaw and Dr Phillip Short in advisory roles.
Groups :-
MCN Network Executive Board
MCN Formulary
MCN COPD
MCN Asthma
MCN Pulmonary Rehabilitation (ad-hoc)
MCN Patient & Carer
MCN Education

What is a Managed Clinical Network?
The aim of the network
- To maximise the quality of life for those with respiratory conditions by detecting and treating conditions and its complications at an early stage.
- To minimise complications and premature death in those with respiratory conditions.
- To provide equal access to high quality respiratory care for all residents of Tayside and enable people with respiratory conditions to be empowered to safely and effectively self manage their condition by creating mutually agreed individualised care plans.
- To minimise the impact of deprivation ethnicity and disadvantage on respiratory care and outcomes.
- To ensure all people with respiratory conditions are given the right treatment, by the right person, at the right time in the right place.
- To ensure that appropriate and accurate information is available in a suitable format and is effectively and reliably used by all those involved in respiratory care.
- Create an MCN workplan to support implementation, monitoring and reporting of local priorities for coordination and improvement in the delivery of respiratory care.
