Lyon Ward Philosophy of Care

Lyon ward is committed to recovery orientated practice and this underpins our philosophy of care.

We aim to provide person-centred care enabling patients to build a meaningful and satisfying life focusing on individual strengths, ambitions and goals as defined by the person themselves.

Overall we aim to inspire the sense of hope for the future, helping to build confidence, skills and knowledge in a supportive and secure environment.

We acknowledge the patients expertise of his own life and mental well-being ensuring that they play an active role in their care.

As a team we aim to work along side our patients on their journey of recovery providing evidence based holistic care within a non-judgemental, caring and respectful environment.

About Lyon Ward

Lyon ward is a 10 bedded low secure ward for males. There is also a 2 bedroom flat within Lyon ward which is used to help patients develop independent living skills during their rehabilitation phase.

NHS Scotland operates a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against verbal and physical assault on NHS staff. Any reports of verbal and/ or physical assault will be reported to Tayside Police and criminal charges will be pursued. All staff in Lyon Ward should treat you in a professional manner with courtesy and respect and in the same way; we expect that you will be respectful to staff looking after you.

During your stay you will work with your care team to develop a plan of care. All information regarding your stay in hospital is confidential however; it may be passed on to other professionals within the team.

Those involved in your care meet every two weeks to discuss your care.

Your Care

We will work in partnership with you to develop your confidence and skills whilst on Lyon ward. We aim to make your move from hospital based care to community living as smooth as possible. With your named nurse you will develop an activity programme which is an integral part of your care plan and treatment.

The occupational Therapy department which is called SCAPA, host various different activities such as the gym, music and art therapies, café/news groups, cooking groups and many more activities that can be incorporated into your activity programme.

Health Promotion

In Lyon ward we are interested in your physical health as well as your mental wellbeing. We can offer advice and support on various issues including weight management, stopping smoking, sexual health, drug and alcohol issues and physical fitness. We work alongside other professionals to provide this support.

Smoking

Rohallion Clinic is a smoke free environment. You can purchase ‘single use’ only vapes which you are permitted to use in outdoor areas only. If you want to help to give up smoking please speak to your doctor about nicotine replacement which may help you

On admission to Lyon Ward you will be allocated a named qualified nurse, who will be responsible for your nursing care during your stay. He/she will be assisted by an associate nurse.

The other members of your care team may include some or all of the following – Occupational Therapists, Psychologist, Social Workers, Community Care Workers, Dieticians, Physiotherapists, Patients Advocacy Workers and Educational Workers, Forensic Community Nurses.

Student Nurses:
Lyon ward is committed to the training and development of nurses. Student nurses are valued as part of the team and have an important part to play in the delivery of your care.

Activities

The day room has a TV and and X-box which is for use by everyone. We have a variety of activities that you can do on the ward in addition to the day room;

  • Pool Table
  • Various Board Games
  • Cooking/ Baking (on request)
  • Relaxation Therapy (on request)
  • Music sound system
  • PC – computer games/music etc

Bedroom Area

  • You have your own room with an en suite (Bath available in communal patient bathroom)
  • You have a bedside cabinet which can be locked if you have items that you would like to keep safe in your room
  • Razors kept separately in a locked cupboard in communal patient bathroom
  • We ask that you do not enter other patient’s bedrooms
  • Your bedding will be changed every Wednesday. We like to promote independence as much as possible so therefore we would appreciate your help with this task
  • It is your responsibility to keep your room tidy to allow the domestics to vacuum the floors etc so please use linen buggies available for dirty bedding which are located in the bedroom corridor
  • When leaving your bedroom please make sure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear in the main ward area

Restricted Items

Some items will be restricted on Lyon Ward, please ask staff to see the policy regarding these items. Also for any smokers, Lighters can be kept in the staff office and will be issued when patients leave the ward, they have to be given back to staff on re-entering the ward.

Visitors

  • The staff will speak with you regarding visitors. All visitors have to be agreed by your team
  • All visitors are requested to pre-arrange visits
  • We have a comfortable visiting room where you can make tea and coffee for your visitors
  • Visits are generally supervised at all times by a member of staff when hospital based however sometimes it is possible to take visits out with Rohallion depending on your time out
     
The visiting times on the ward are as follows;

14:00 - 16:00
19:00 – 20:00

Visits can be arranged out with these times where possible, please discuss with staff who will try their best to assist you.

If there are any children visiting please discuss this with a member of staff. Visits involving children need to be approved by your care team and take place in our family visiting room.
