During your stay, you will be looked after by a “Multi-disciplinary Team” consisting of your Psychiatrist, Nursing Staff, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker, GP, Mental Health Officer, Physiotherapist, Dietician and Advocacy. You will meet with team members within your first couple of weeks on the ward.

The Senior Nurses who are in charge of the ward are:.

Charge Nurse – Elaine Lennox
Charge Nurse - Robbie Clark

Named Nurse/Key Worker

On admission, you will be allocated a named nurse who will support you with settling into the ward. They will get to know you and we encourage you to meet regularly with them to discuss any concerns you may have and so they can support you in your recovery journey. We hope you find all the staff friendly and approachable, as they are all available to discuss any queries regarding your care pathway.

Within 12 weeks from admission, you and your named nurse are expected to have worked together on assessing your needs and developing care plans to meet those needs.

These assessments will be discussed, with the Multi-Disciplinary Team, at your initial CPA (Care Programme Approach). Your Named Nurse will explain this whole process to you and talk through any anxieties you may have regarding this.

Activities/Therapies

Occupational Therapy staff will provide you a timetable for each week in SCAPA. There are a range of activities to choose from but firstly it must be determined by your consultant which activities and access you can have.

There are ward based activities that you can be involved in with ward staff such as board games, pool or table tennis. If planned in advance and staff permitting, ward staff can take patients to the SCAPPA gym in the evening time also.

When you are admitted to the ward your Consultant will agree with you any visitors that you would like to be able to come to visit you. In the case of a child visiting a social worker may have to go to their home to do a home report before they visit.

Visits will be held in the ward meeting room and will be supervised by staff. If a child is to visit, this will be held in the Family Room in SCAPA supervised by staff.

Visits should be planned in advance so that ward staff can let reception know who is visiting the clinic.
