Procedures

Anyone wishing to receive help from the Tayside Wheelchair Outreach project is required to fill in a referral form. These can be obtained by contacting the project.

Once the referral form has been received, there will be a series of steps taken in order to provide the best possible service.

  • Discussion - A home visit will be arranged to find out what the project can do to help.
  • Acceptance - The project will advise those who require help in purchasing a powered wheelchair or scooter whether they have been accepted onto the waiting list.
  • Identification - The most suitable piece of equipment will be identified. (This may be taken from a range of existing stock held by the project.)
  • Training - A training programme on the use of the equipment and Road Safety rules will be arranged. (Approximately six sessions will be carried out.)
  • Testing - A Road Safety test will be set to ensure the safe use of the powered wheelchair or scooter.

All this will be carried out by fully trained staff who will provide impartial advice.

Any equipment provided by the project will have a minimum of six months warranty. They will also be able to advise on repairs, servicing and insurance on all mobility devices.
