Rewards and Benefits

There are so many benefits to working with NHS Tayside. Perhaps one of the most important is the experience of our staff and the ability to contribute to the quality of care and services offered to the people of Tayside and beyond.
  • Paid sick leave increasing with length of service
  • Access to occupational health and counselling services
  • A range of other employment benefits including flexible working options, career breaks, 4 weeks paid parental leave for each child under 14 years of age (18 for disabled children) and childcare vouchers scheme

Your NHS Pension Contributions

The amount you pay towards your pension scheme depends on your ‘pensionable pay’ (which is your salary, wages, fees and any other regular payments but not any bonuses, expenses or overtime payments).

Please see link below:

Your NHS Pension Contributions

Contributions are subject to tax relief and reduced National Insurance contributions. NHS Tayside also makes a substantial contribution towards scheme benefits – currently around 14% of basic pay.

The main aims of the pension scheme are to ensure that pension benefits are sustainable in the longer term and meet the needs of the 21st century workforce.

Flexible Working

There are a huge range of opportunities within NHS Tayside to work in a way that fits in with your circumstances. That can mean part time working, job sharing, term time working and evening or weekend work.

To help you find a healthy work/life balance we also have a whole raft of policies, on family-friendly working, career breaks and equality and diversity.

NHS Tayside understands the importance of achieving the right balance between work and home. That means offering working patterns that match people’s needs, where possible.

Career Development

Providing good healthcare is a team effort where everyone has a contribution to make. NHS Tayside is committed to offering continuous learning and building opportunities for all staff, full-time and part-time, to extend their range of skills and knowledge, and enable them to realise more of their potential.

No matter where you start, you will have access to further training and the chance to stretch your abilities and advance your career if you wish to.

Childcare Vouchers

NHS Tayside participates in the Childcare Voucher Scheme. Childcare vouchers are an easy way to pay for certain types of childcare. If you are using registered or approved childcare, you can choose to take part of your salary in Childcare Vouchers (this is known as salary sacrifice) which allows you to take advantage of tax and National Insurance savings. Childcare vouchers are not just for babies – they can be used to pay for the care of children up to the age of 16 years including:

  • Home based care such as childminders, nannies and au pairs
  • Pre-school care such as nursery schools, play schools and crèches
  • Care for older children such as out of school clubs (breakfast clubs, after school clubs), boarding if invoiced separately to school fees and holiday clubs.
