How to Get Here

From the A9, follow the signs to Aberfeldy, come into the village square. Take the first left next to the Co-Op. Continue up the hill, the Hospital can be found at the top of the hill, approximately a quarter of a mile from the town square on the left hand side.  Aberfeldy is served by a limited transport service. Details can be obtained from Stagecoach by telephoning 0871 2002233, (Central information line)

Smoking

There is a “No Smoking” Policy within the Hospitals and Grounds. This is in line with NHS Tayside No Smoking Policy.

Things to bring with you

  • Medicines
    Any prescription medicines should be brought with you to hospital, in original containers, together with the Regular Prescription Slip completed by your doctor and handed, on admission, to the nurse in charge
  • Clothing
    Night-dress or pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers.
    Day clothes (Patients are encouraged to dress every day)
    Well fitting shoes
  • Toiletries
    Soap, Tooth brush and paste, brush and comb, shampoo, shaving kit or electric razor, tissues, deodorant, continence products (if required)  Hospital towels are provided
  • Spectacles
  • Hearing Aid
  • Dentures
  • Walking Aids (Please label before admission)
  • Money for immediate needs (No more than £20 as a guide)
  • Reading material (Library books are available from our Library service)
  • Writing paper, envelopes and stamps
  • Papers can be arranged through the local newsagent 01887 820397
    papers will be delivered to the Hospital, bills must be settled before discharge

Visiting Hours

Afternoon visiting is from 14:00 to 16:00
Evening visiting is from 18:30 to 20:00

Family and friends are encouraged to visit. Ward activities and the clinical conditions of patients may sometimes restrict visiting.
Access at other times can be arranged with the nurse in charge of the ward. Please advise anyone wishing to visit, not to do so if they have an infectious condition such as a cough or cold.

The ward has a protected mealtimes policy:
Breakfast – 8am to 8:30am
Lunch – 12noon to 1pm
Supper – 5pm to 6pm

Parking Facilities

Limited parking is available on the road at the front of the Hospital

Overnight Accommodation

Overnight Accommodation is only available for Relatives of Patients with Terminal or End of Life conditions.

Assistance with Travelling Expenses

Patients who are receiving treatment and who are entitled and in receipt of Income support or Family Credit are automatically entitled to travelling expenses to and from the hospital. You will be asked to provide the letter that you will have been sent by Department of Works and Pensions or your local Benefit Delivery Office, which will prove your entitlement, a photo copy of this document will be taken.

If you are on a lower income, unemployed or a pensioner you may also be entitled to receive reimbursement of part or all of your travelling expenses. In this case you should contact NHS Advice Line on 0800 224488 and request an HC1 form.

Any payment will be based on the cost of travel by the cheapest form of public transport.  Further details are available from your local Benefit Delivery office

Please remember to keep any travel tickets as you will need to produce these at the hospital before payment may be made

If you live in one of the former crofting counties you may qualify for assistance under the “Highlands and Islands Scheme”.

Medical Certificates

To obtain Statutory Sick Pay or Sickness Benefit you must send a medical certificate to your employer or local Benefit Delivery Office as soon as possible after becoming sick.  You will have to provide your National Insurance Number in order to complete the medical certificate which can be obtained on request from ward nursing staff.

Finance

If you are in receipt of any form of retirement pension, benefits or allowances you should notify your local Benefit Delivery Centre that you are being admitted to hospital.

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones may be used; however, Mobile phone chargers will have to be given an electrical safety check by the NHS maintenance team before they can be used.

Spiritual, Religious and Cultural Needs

A Hospital chaplain and other Religious Leaders can be contacted if requested.

Gifts

Flowers are always welcome on the wards.  In the interests of safety, visitors should not bring any drugs or harmful objects into the hospital.  Visitors are asked to check with the nurse in charge regarding the suitability of food, drinks or any other items which they might want to bring in for the Patients. This is in line with NHS Tayside Nutrition Policy

Relatives Enquiries

It is appreciated that relatives will be anxious to learn of a patient’s progress, but it would be helpful if telephone enquiries were limited to immediate members of the family.  Where possible one person should call on behalf of the family.
A Doctor is normally available to see relatives on a Monday and a Friday.

Visitors Toilets

Available in the Reception/Outpatient Area located at the Main entrance to the Hospital

Cash and Valuables

A small amount of money i.e. £20 should be available for the purchase of small items if necessary.
Valuables and large sums of money should not be brought into Hospital if possible as NHS Tayside cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to Patient’s property not in safe custody.
Arrangements can, however, if necessary, be made with the nurse in charge for the safekeeping of money and valuables, in the event of Patients not having Friends or Family available.  Large sums of money will be sent to the Cashiers in Murray Royal where it will be banked. This money will be returned to you on discharge, in the form of a cheque.

Personal Belongings

It is always helpful if a relative or friend can take away your suitcase and any other items not immediately required, including valuables such as jewellery.

Library Service

The Perth and Kinross Library Service provides a selection of books for Patients to borrow.

Café/Snack Bar

There are no facilities in the Hospital
