Hospital Palliative Care Team - Perth Royal Infirmary

A Hospital Palliative Care Team is based at Perth Royal Infirmary. Patients, relatives and staff are supported by the team of Specialist Palliative Care Nurses and a Consultant in Palliative Medicine.

Patients who have any life threatening illness may be referred to the service from diagnosis, at recurrence or as their disease progresses and their care needs change. Specialist support and advice can be accessed regarding:

• Pain Control
• Control of distressing symptoms, e.g. nausea and vomiting.
• Information on treatment modalities.
• Physical/emotional support for patients and/or families.

Hospital Palliative Care Team - Ninewells Hospital

The aim of this service is to provide excellent symptom control, support and specialist advice to patients, carers and colleagues within Ninewells Hospital. As well as facilitating high quality palliative care, the team works in partnership with other agencies providing care and support for patients with cancer and other advanced progressive disease.

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday from 08.30-17.00

Aims of the Service

• To work with the referring team, giving specialist advice on pain and symptom control for patients with cancer and other advanced non-malignant disease.
• To support patients and their families/carers when dealing with difficult and complex situations during any stage of their illness.
• To support colleagues when caring for dying patients.
• To participate in multidisciplinary education at both formal and informal levels.
• Discharge planning remains the responsibility of the referring ward: we can assist in specific cases where patients have complex needs
