Volunteers appeal for Roxburghe House
Roxburghe House in Dundee is looking for more volunteers. Do you have an hour or two to spare each week and an interest in volunteering?
Roxburghe House at Royal Victoria Hospital provides specialist palliative care to patients living with a life limiting illness such as cancer.
Palliative care aims to improve the quality of life of individuals and their families facing the problems associated with a life-limiting illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering. It provides relief from pain and other distressing symptoms and offers a support system to help the family cope during the person’s illness and in their own bereavement.
A highly valued team of volunteers help support the team of healthcare staff in the unit, helping to provide a range of services such as drivers, assisting with teas and coffees as well as welcome receptionists. There are also opportunities for volunteers to work with patients and their families in community settings.
To enable the services that are provided by volunteers to continue and develop the unit is appealing for more volunteers who would be able to help out on a regular basis.
A commitment of an hour or two a week is all that is required to ensure that the valuable services that volunteers contribute can continue.
All volunteers are offered support to enable them to carry out their role. They receive training and have regular meetings with their volunteer service manager
