IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Launch of Tayside Social Attitudes to Alcohol survey

Alcohol use is being put under the spotlight with the launch of a new survey across Tayside.

The anonymous Tayside Social Attitudes to Alcohol survey is being conducted by NHS Tayside on behalf of the Alcohol and Drugs Partnerships (ADPs) in Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross to improve understanding of people’s attitudes towards alcohol.

The online questionnaire has been designed to learn more about people’s experiences and views about alcohol in a bid to identify issues, concerns and needs in the region.

This survey is part of a larger project aiming to identify what people in Tayside consider to be ‘normal’ consumption of alcohol, when people consider that they, or someone close to them, consumes alcohol in a problematic way, and what response people think could help. This survey also aims to capture whether people feel they have been harmed by someone else’s drinking.

Results from the survey will help to make improvements to the approach to tackle alcohol misuse in Tayside.

Director of public health Drew Walker said, “This survey is part of our efforts to encourage people in Tayside to develop a positive and healthy approach to alcohol. It will help us gain information on alcohol and what people’s attitudes are towards alcohol consumption. The results of the survey will also go towards helping to improve the services available to support individuals and families affected by alcohol misuse.

“We hope as many people as possible can complete the survey. It is completely anonymous and confidential and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.”
