NHS Tayside receives Carers Positive Award
NHS Tayside Chairman Professor John Connell was presented with the Carers Positive Award in recognition of the work that is being carried out in NHS Tayside to support staff who are carers.
The Carers Positive Award is presented to employers in Scotland who have a work environment where carers are valued and supported and to date there are 64 organisations across Scotland signed up.
Professor Connell received the Carers Positive Award from Susan McLintock, Manager Carers Positive Award, Carers Scotland.
Professor Connell said, “NHS Tayside recognises the huge amount of support that carers provide every day and many of our employees act as carers.
“The staff who work in NHS Tayside are our greatest asset, and it is vital that we recognise their needs in managing the demands that being a carer can create.
“This award acknowledges NHS Tayside’s commitment to help support our staff to fulfil both their caring role and their employee role.”
To achieve Carer Positive status NHS Tayside provided evidence that the organisation met the criteria in five areas; identification of carers, provision of carer information, workplace support, communication on how to access available support and information, awareness raising and training and peer support.
The certificate acknowledges the ongoing work by NHS Tayside to support staff through the launch of the Carers Information Pack and the role of NHS Tayside’s Carers Support Officer.
The new carers’ support information pack has been developed to help support staff who are carers to manage the sometimes difficult job of balancing their work commitment with their caring responsibilities.
The booklet provides important relevant information on the many sources of support within NHS Tayside as well as local and national agencies and charities and a range of useful websites.
