Her Majesty the Queen thanks care home residents in Perth & Kinross
Her Majesty the Queen has thanked care home residents in Perth & Kinross for their efforts to mark her 90th birthday celebrations.
Residents in care homes in Perth & Kinross took part in a number of activities and events to mark the special occasion this year, including afternoon tea parties, intergenerational community events, and sing-along activities.
Many of the participants joined in the fun, wearing Union Jack hats and enjoying royal-themed food, such as coronation chicken.
In Perth & Kinross, 70 care home residents shared 90th birthday celebrations with The Queen in 2016. Each of these residents received a birthday card created by local primary school pupils and a commemorative medal.
A booklet about the local activities and events was created by Perth Academy pupil Rebecca Harper on behalf of the Perth & Kinross Care Home Activity Network (CHAN), which was sent to The Queen to share the celebrations with her.
Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership Falls Service Manager Carolyn Wilson, who worked in partnership with CHAN, Perth College UHI and local schools to arrange the activities, was delighted to receive feedback from The Queen.
A letter from the Chief Clerk to The Queen reads, “The Queen was most interested to see photographs from the many different events held for the residents of the homes, their families and the local communities.
“Her Majesty was touched by the thoughtful messages expressed and, in return, has asked me to convey her warm thanks and best wishes to you and all those who were present at the birthday celebrations.”
Carolyn Wilson said, “It is lovely to receive the letter from the Chief Clerk to The Queen in recognition of all the effort made in Perth & Kinross to mark the special occasion.
“The residents had a wonderful time enjoying the celebrations and the events were a great example of partnership working in Perth & Kinross.”
Lord Lieutenant of Perth & Kinross Brigadier Melville Jameson said, “I was so delighted at all the tea parties which took place in celebration of Her Majesty’s 90th, which were captured in the excellent booklet sent to The Queen.”

Notes to Editors:
Health and social care services in Perth and Kinross are now delivered by the Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership. Integration of these services is part of the Scottish Government’s programme of reform to improve outcomes for adults who use health and social care services. It is a direct response to what people have told us they want. We know that people want to receive care and support in, or near to, their own home, and for that support to feel seamless when different services are involved.
The Partnership will tailor services to meet the particular needs of individual local communities. Health and social care integration will mean changing the way we support and deliver health and social care services, focusing on the important role individuals, communities and third sector have in supporting healthy and independent lives.
