Tesco Knitting Festival donation to Neonatal
Tesco’s Customer Engagement Centre Knitting Festival donated woolly goods to the Neonatal Unit at Ninewells Hospital.
At least 35 knitters participated in this year’s Tesco Knitting Festival and over two months the army of knitters knitted enough items to donate to the neonatal in Ninewells and two Dundee charities.
Stella Exnophontos-Hellen from Tesco said, “This is our third knitting festival. All our colleagues support us and their families get involved too! We have many unsung knitting heroes, an army of grannies, aunties, mums and sisters.
“The neonatal unit is something close to our hearts. Many of us have links to the unit and we know what amazing work they do there. We’ve mostly knitted blankets in previous years but this time we went all out and knitted blankets, cardigans, bijou booties, hats and mitts. We also knitted hats, scarves and gloves for two Dundee charities who work with homeless people.
“I have had great fun instigating, developing and managing this project. It has been my baby, in a way, and marvellous to see how pleased the neonatal unit were to receive the bags of knitting.”
Accepting the donation, senior charge nurse Alison Findlay said, “Thank you to Stella, all her co workers and their families who generously gave up their time and materials to produce such beautifully knitted garments and blankets.
“Their support is warmly appreciated. The staff were thrilled at the quality and detail of such lovingly crafted items and I know our babies parents will be too.”
