Angus midwives deliver success in national awards
Midwives from the Angus Midwifery Team have been shortlisted in two categories of the Royal College of Midwives Annual Awards. The winners will be presented with an award at a ceremony in London in March.
Iona Duckett and the Angus Midwifery Team have been shortlisted in the category ‘Policy into Practice’ for their project ‘Introducing a caseload midwife’.
The award recognises an outstanding, innovative project where creative thinking, sound research methodology and effective teamwork have combined to achieve real improvement in practice.
Angus Midwife Michelle Carter has been selected as the Regional Winner for Scotland in the ‘Emma’s Diary Mums’ Midwife of the Year Award’. Candidates for this award are selected from nominations from mothers who describe how the care that they received made a significant difference to them. The overall winner of this award will be chosen from seven regional winners.
Justine Craig, Chief Midwife for NHS Tayside, said “I am very proud of Iona and the team on being shortlisted for this prestigious award. The Angus team has developed a service which is truly innovative and women-centred. The team has worked hard to transform the service into this innovative and forward looking model.
“I am also delighted that Michelle has been chosen as the Regional Winner in a category which is nominated in by mothers. This award recognises the high quality care Michelle has delivered and how it has made a positive impact on the mum and her family.”
Gill Walton, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives, said, “The standard of entries has been extremely high, so to get this far is an outstanding achievement. It shows how much innovation is going on in our maternity services, and how hard midwives, maternity support workers and the wider maternity team are working to deliver the safest and best possible care. I wish Iona, Michelle and the team the best of luck at the awards ceremony next year.”
