Donation to paediatric orthopaedics

A Dundee family have donated £2020 to the paediatric orthopaedic department at Tayside Children’s Hospital.

Dundee man Jimmy Lindsay donated money to the paediatric orthopaedic department to say thank you for looking after his granddaughter Aria.

Jimmy said, “Aria had an operation in October for hip dysplasia. After the operation Aria was fitted with a cast from her waist down to her ankles. She has been in the cast for 11 weeks and it is being removed next week.

“Staff at the children’s ward were very caring and attentive with Aria so I decided to arrange a sponsored walk to thank them for all their hard work. I walked 19 miles from my home in Dundee to Arbroath with my youngest son Scott, and for the last six miles, Scott’s daughter Megan joined us.

“Our friends, family and work colleagues have raised £1020 and my employer Arnold Clark donated £1000 making a total of £2020.

“Aria’s big sister Keira bought two children’s books called Hope the ‘Hip’ Hippo with her pocket money. The books explain to children what hip dysplasia is.”

Accepting the cheque, consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Donald Campbell said, “On behalf of the department I would like to say a big thank you to Aria’s family for their generous donation. This will go towards buying items that will improve the comfort for patients with hip dysplasia.”
