IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Men’s Shed project in Comrie – under construction!
A new Men’s Shed project is under construction in the Comrie area.
Men’s Shed is a concept that originated in Australia to create somewhere men can call their own, where they can spend time sharing skills, knowledge and interests in a relaxed atmosphere.
Men’s Sheds provide a place for men to gather and participate in a number of activities whilst supporting each other. The project has gained in popularity across the world and has now been introduced to several areas in Perth & Kinross.
Residents in the Comrie area are being invited to a public meeting to discuss establishing a Shed locally. The meeting is being held at the White Church Community Centre at 7pm on Tuesday, 13 February.
A Men’s Shed project currently runs successfully in Kinross and is supported by Perth & Kinross Healthy Communities. Participants from Kinross will be at the Comrie meeting to share their reasons for joining the shed and give local folk an opportunity to hear from an established Men’s Shed.
Perth & Kinross Healthy Communities, in partnership with Age Scotland’s Men’s Sheds Community Development Officer are now inviting members of the public who might be interested in joining the new group to contact project support worker Shona Fowler on 07896 280843 or by email shonafowler@nhs.net
Shona said, “Men’s Sheds are gaining in popularity in Scotland and are widely acknowledged as providing many benefits to those who attend and the communities in which they are situated. The Men’s Shed programme has been shown to improve participant’s wellbeing and reduce isolation.
“Men’s Sheds are friendly environments that cater for men with a range of interests and serve as an important meeting place for men to socialise, share life experiences and skills.”
