‘Get into Healthcare - Clinical’ celebration event

Successful participants from the new Tayside ‘Get into Healthcare – Clinical’ course recently attended a celebration event to mark their graduation.

The six-week course is aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 24 and is designed to provide a range of skills that would be valuable if they decide to explore a career in care.

The programme, which launched in March, is run in partnership by NHS Tayside, The Prince’s Trust and Dundee & Angus College.

The course gives young people the opportunity to gain certificates in mandatory skills, such as manual handling, infection control, first aid and food hygiene. The participants also explored the values of care and the importance of working to codes of conduct.

During the course, the young people visited a number of departments and services, and were also given access to work experience within NHS Tayside across a range of wards and areas.

Every participant graduating from the programme receives a guaranteed interview for a role within NHS Tayside or an interview for a relevant course at Dundee & Angus College.

A celebration event was held at Ninewells Hospital, where NHS Tayside Chief Executive Malcolm Wright presented certificates to the successful graduates.

The graduates of the first Get into Healthcare programme are Samantha Croll, Bobby-Lee Fleming, Mackenzie Jackson, Nicole Kelbie, Ariane Mackenzie, Donald Macleod, Amy McFadyen, Heidi Papendorf and Shona Ramsay-Hogan.

Malcolm Wright said he was delighted to present the certificates to the graduates.

He said, “I welcome the opportunity to congratulate the participants of this course for their hard work and enthusiasm during the programme. This course is a great example of partnership working to create opportunities for young people and encourage them to explore a career working within the NHS.

“I would also like to express my thanks to all our partners and placement providers for their ongoing commitment and support in providing exciting opportunities for participants as part of the Employability Services programme.”
