Help NHS Tayside celebrate 70 years of the National Health Service
NHS Tayside is inviting Taysiders to share their memories of the NHS as we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the National Health Service.
The NHS was created on 5 July, 1948 based on the principle of healthcare provided free at the point of need, a commitment that is as strong today. NHS Tayside remains dedicated to providing everyone with the best possible care experience.
NHS Tayside is encouraging Taysiders to share their experiences and happy memories of health care in Tayside and tell us what the NHS means to them and their families.
Anyone who would like to share their photos and memories about the NHS can email them as jpeg attachments or scan them to communications.tayside@nhs.net or post them on NHS Tayside’s Facebook and Twitter pages using hashtags #nhsscot70 and #lovenhstayside. The photos and stories will then be used at events and on social media to celebrate the anniversary.
NHS Tayside is also planning to host a number of events across sites to showcase the changes and advances made across the NHS over the last 70 years.
NHS Tayside Chief Executive Malcolm Wright said, “The 70th anniversary is not only a celebration of the NHS and its commitment and service, but also a real opportunity to thank the staff at NHS Tayside for their continued hard work, dedication and skill that they provide every day.
“The staff and volunteers across NHS Tayside continue to put patients first and provide the best possible services for our communities. We hope that many people from across the region share their memories and stories of the NHS to help us celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS.”
John Brown, NHS Tayside Chairman said, “The 70th Anniversary is an opportunity to look back and celebrate the great achievements in health care at NHS Tayside and the difference the NHS has made to people’s lives. It also gives us the opportunity to consider how services will develop in the future.
“The NHS has delivered massive medical advances and improvements in health, meaning we can expect to live longer, healthier lives.
“We know that the NHS has continuously evolved since it was established nearly 70 years ago and so changes to services and treatments are happening all the time.
“In Tayside, we are already looking to the future and reviewing how services are planned and delivered to take account of the many challenges we face. Our doctors and nurses, and other healthcare professionals, are always working to improve services for patients and it is important that they take the lead in planning for changes in the future.
“We are looking forward to celebrating the last 70 years, as well as the future, of the NHS with members of the public and staff across Tayside.”
