Donation of fans to Ninewells
A Dundee family visited Ninewells Hospital yesterday (Thursday, 5 July) to hand over fans and tablets.
Sandra Culross, accompanied by her son Greg, returned to Ward 34 to thank staff for the care that her husband Stewart received when he was a patient on the ward earlier this year.
Stewart was being treated on Ward 34 for non-Hodgkins lymphoma and sadly he passed away at home after suffering complications on 13 May.
Following his funeral his family decided that the collection would go to Ward 34 as the staff had shown Stewart such excellent compassionate care over the five months from when he was diagnosed.
Money collected at Stewart’s funeral amounted to just under £500 and it was decided that it would be used to purchase 16 fans and two Fusion tablets for the patients.
Handing over the donation Sandra said, “Stewart was in and out of Ward 34 throughout his illness and the staff were always fantastic with us both, very caring and helpful.
“Stewart was a very popular and well thought of man and with the money collected by friends and family at his funeral, we wanted to give something back to the ward as a thank you for the care they showed.”
Senior charge nurse Heather Whatley said, “On behalf of the ward I would like to thank Sandra and Greg for this very much appreciated donation of fans and Fusion tablets. It was really a very thoughtful gesture to think of the patients in Ward 34. The fans and tablets will both be very much used within our ward helping to make the time our patients spend on the ward that little bit more comfortable.”
